Intentional. That's the word that resonates with me after our visit to Sacred Earth Wellness Spa. You can look at it a few ways. The setting surrounding the spa--intentional in the fact that you become connected to the natural world around you with the wooded ravine, calming fountain, and bridge that leads you to the woods. The massage--well, this was intentional at it's best. Every touch, rub, and part of the body massaged was chosen for a specific reason. And, that's part of Autumn's story. There's a reason behind her intentional work. And, it's pretty amazing. Who is Autumn, by the way? She is the owner of Sacred Earth Wellness Spa. The spa...

Meza Wine Shop is a quaint little "mama n' pop" shop, which is just slang for saying, it's a small business independently owned and run.  And, that hard working owner is Tatjana Brown. She grew up with her father homemaking all kinds of wines, on the east side of Cleveland.  Her parents actually immigrated here from Serbia,  so she speaks fluent Serbian. I mean, her families traditions date back generations and generations. "The culture and lifestyle is embedded in me and the store, because it's important." A central component to Serbian culture is food and wine.  "Meza" actually means "pre-meal," like cheeses and small bites to eat. The shop was established back in...

There is really only one question to ask yourself—are you a foodie?   People tend to know this about themselves. It’s a simple yes or no, because there is nothing in between. And even if you say, “no” that’s fine—continue reading anyways, because this story is still for you.  Columbus Food Adventures is for you. Have you heard of Bethia Woolf yet?   This woman has blown me out of the water. I spent at least an hour preparing for my interview with her, researching and reading articles---and I’m tellin’ you---there’s not a whole lot she hasn’t done! She’s kind of a legend here in Columbus. Well, she...

Deluxe Door Systems is more than a garage door company. I mean, of course it's a company that fixes garage doors, but it's also a story of an owner, Jeff. Jeff's a good guy, and one that has built this business from the ground up, and has built a solid team to join the ride. If your garage door is broken, he'll fix it. Believe me--they came out to our house a few weeks ago. If you don't like your garage door, he'll help you get a new one up in no time. He still has his hand in fixing the doors-- you can even find him working on Saturdays....

Transformation Wellness Center started with a passion for a medical team doing the right thing for their patients.   Dr. David E. Whitt saw an epidemic.  He saw his patients slowly acquiring more medical problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, joint pain, weight gain, and many ailments that were affecting their lives and their health.   He wanted to provide a lasting solution and not just another temporary Band-Aid. In the clinical world, it’s easy to tell a patient, “You need to diet and exercise.” But, what good has that really done anyone? You leave the office, knowing what you should do and what you need to do,...

Not every business starts from a well-thought out plan or dream someone had as a young child. Actually, most businesses are created unexpectedly and have a pretty good story to tell. Ridiculously Good Salsa is one of those businesses. It all started with a pretty horrific event, actually. Vickie's son was with his girlfriend in New York. As they were driving home, at night, they were hit head on by another driver. This driver was high on heroin and was driving on the wrong side of the street with no head lights on. Can you imagine? The fear of getting that call as a mother? Vickie and her...

Can you imagine being laid off every single spring? And spending every summer finding a new job—in a new district—in a new school—just so you could teach art? Well, that’s what Kelly had to do. Sadly, in many public school systems the first to be laid off are the art teachers. She’s had a passion for being creative ever since she was a little girl. Her grandmother even taught her to cross-stitch and embroider. Now, she is hand-sewing her butt off making clothing for Twinzzshop.  Kelly is proudly the owner, creator, and maker for all Twinzzshop products. "I create hand-sewn recycled t-shirt appliques on onesies and tees...

How did Shelly Lou’s Lids come to be? In hind sight there are a lot of little clues in my history that led up to this. First off, my dad ran his own business for 30 years, so I guess it is in the blood to be an entrepreneur. Also, I spent a lot of time at craft shows with my mom shopping and watching my aunt sell her handmade goods. And, I’ve always been creative. Not in the sense that I can draw or paint, but I’m an idea person. I always have ideas floating around, which for 80% of the time is great. The...

Re:work Furnishings was founded on the idea that just because it's old or used, doesn't mean it isn't beautiful.  Old, reclaimed wood and materials have more character and can be much more beautiful than new materials.  Handmade architectural elements and furniture crafted with reclaimed materials, reflects what is lost in this day of machine made, cookie cutter home décor and furniture.  It also cuts across architectural style to reflect your taste and design from the rustic to the contemporary. We use local sourcing to find our materials, supporting other small businesses and local makers.  Reuse and redesign are an important standard to our work and our...

Our first contact with Columbus Birth & Parenting was over Instagram. I messaged them after their big event, No Child Wet Behind. I stalked them for awhile, and thought it was time to reach out like a normal person should (although I tend to do things in a way that isn't so normal.)  The reason I was so intrigued by them in the beginning was the fact that this 5k event and fundraiser they held had an inspirational meaning behind it, and it impacted the city of Columbus in a positive way--just like we hope to do at Columbus Stories. I could tell Leah and Catie cared...
