Columbus is pretty incredible--in so many ways. We have: the BEST library in the country the best zoo in the country the best science center in America and America’s largest University. We have also been recognized as one of the 7 Smartest Cities in the World-pretty cool, huh? So, it really should be no surprise why we won the U.S. Department of Transportation $40 million Smart City Challenge. As Mayor Ginther said, "Stop acting surprised." It's true. Columbus really is the place to be and I'm darn proud of that. Because we won the Smart City Challenge and we were awarded a $40 million dollar grant, we are taking great strides to connect...

My son was born in 2013 and we didn’t know there was anything wrong.       I had a completely healthy pregnancy and then he was born premature. When he was born he was jaundice—which causes yellowing of the skin and eyes. No one was worried about it because that’s pretty normal in premature babies. A couple days later they sent us home, but they wanted to watch him closely. We were getting blood drawn every three days for his first two weeks of life, and then it got a little bit better and we thought, “Oh great he’s getting better—we’re good to go. It was just a premature thing.” But...

When we met Chris at his Clintonville duplex remodeling project, we both instantly felt a level of comfort. Chris was so easy going and laid back.  But, it's no surprise why after we heard his amazing story. If you've been following along our series than you already know a little background about North Creek Construction, but if you haven't let me just briefly bring you up to speed.  "I moved to Columbus from Cleveland, OH in 2010. Shortly after the move I went through a difficult divorce and became a single mother of 3. I needed to find supplemental income to make ends meet and keep life going. I run an in-home daycare during the day and didn’t want to put my children through having a Mom with more than one full time job. I have always been in love with art and I’ve been painting as long as I can remember. I do not have an art degree and hadn’t explored earning an income through my painting beyond selling pet portraits; I...

"Never Give Up" Meet Joe Woodley "I was involved in a long-distance relationship with a young lady from Columbus. We had known each other for quite some time and I had traveled to Columbus numerous occasions. In April of 1998, she called to inform me that she was pregnant. Having grown up with my father not being involved in my life, I wanted to do what I thought was the right thing, and be there for my child. Frankly, I was afraid and I knew that I was ill-prepared to be a father at the time, but that August I boarded a Greyhound bus which departed Grand Central...

Part 1: The Brothers @buckeyevodka📷 Buckeye Vodka is an intentional well-thought-out product that was designed, developed, and founded by 4 brothers (well almost)---Brothers Jim & Chris Finke, Brother-in-law Tom Rambasek, and good friend and CFO Marty Clarke founded Crystal Spirits, LLC and developed the Buckeye Vodka brand. 🍁 I'm sure it's not hard to put together that they're Ohioans--I mean come on, they named their vodka "Buckeye".. for a reason. The Finke’s are fourth generation Ohioans from Dayton. Tom was raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, and all four were educated at different Ohio universities. 🍁 The distillery is located in Dayton where each bottle of vodka is hand-crafted by...

Dear Columbus, Let me start off by just saying HI and welcome to my unpredictable life.  In 1996 I entered this place called Earth. I was born and raised in the beautiful 614.  I grew up going to Upper Arlington schools. My goal in High School was to graduate and set my life towards being a Hairstylist, or at least something in the beauty industry. Little did I know that’s not what was planned for me. Half way through cosmetology school my family and I had a serious sit down talk about our future goals. A few months down the road I got the opportunity of a lifetime to go live...
