It's been over a decade of planning for Danielle Miranda.  A decade of studying.  A decade of implementation. And, a decade of intentional strategy.  When I think about it, Danielle's been building an empire.  Literally. Rock N' Shock is only the beginning. "We are not a gym.  I want to make that clear." Rock-N-Shock is really more of an all-encompassing--internal heath--fitness phenomenon that's going to become a new wave--epidemic.  It's the future of health. Rock-N-Shock Fitness is the only American Fitness University certified H.I.T.F.I.T facility in Ohio.  It's run by a Breaker (not a trainer). First, H.I.T.F.I.T stands for High Intensity Timed Functional Interval Training. Danielle actually developed the...

"You are, without a doubt the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my entire life, and I don’t know how a guy like me ever got so lucky to get a girl like you." My husband reminds me that he loves me daily.  It was a part of our wedding vows. He posts it on Facebook and he looks me in the eye and repeats that same quote when he thinks I need reminded of how beautiful he thinks I am. I smile and say thank you, because I don't know how to take a compliment.  We have been through some crazy ups and...

As creatives we’re always finding inspiration in others' work and figuring out who we are as artists. I tend to get stuck in emulating what I see others do and where the trends are headed. These trends have told me to prepare a much needed cup of coffee that takes at least 4 minutes to brew, wrap in flannel and don moccasins, to hike the pine-rimmed summit of a western mountain. Cue the cinematic music and we’ve got it made. While I do, in fact, enjoy every last one of these things (especially as I just shared photo evidence while cheesily posing with our Chemex), I just...

My wedding day was June 4th, 2011. It was a very hot and humid day. Finally, after months of planning, the big day was here. I was excited, nervous, and broken hearted all at the same time. My husband was a sailor in the United States Navy and was being shipped out a few days later. I had planned this party to be the most fun of days. Cotton Candy, Elephant Ears. Popcorn.  Even strongman cutouts and a Photobooth!  All around me were my friends and family. It was incredible and to be honest, I felt sick. The man to whom I had vowed my love and...

I have to tell this story. I know I have to tell it for two main reasons. There has been a voice inside of me saying, "just do it already!" for months. My friend just happened to start this blog entitled,Columbus Stories, which I took as a sign that it needed to be done. What better reasons to tell a story, right?  You want to tell it, and someone wants to hear it. And so, here it is: Our Story I keep trying to think how to summarize us. In a few paragraphs?  How?  We lived a lifetime in sixteen years together. So fast. Too fast. I decided that even though many...

The Center for Wholeness was the very first yoga center in Columbus. Did you know that? I’m serious. The very first one. And it’s all thanks to a small group of passionate individuals who were dedicated to empowering the community.  And see, now Columbus is bustling with yoga studios at every turn.   But, The Center for Wholeness remains the heart of the scene—because it’s home for where many yogi’s started their journey.  It's actually the only non-profit organization designed for outreach programs in this type of wellness. So yes, they are also a non-profit organization.    Janice was one of those keen founders. She has been...

"People helping people. Period"   Yes, this is what Claire is doing. Her company, Aunt Flow, is helping women with "that time of the month." We have to talk about it--and that means not being embarrassed or grossed out, or afraid to talk about it. We have to, because there's a problem. And, Claire is solving it. Thank God. So, what you don't know, is that Claire was at The Ohio State University studying Comparative Religions. She was a straight "A" student in high school, and was even doing well in college. The problem was, she didn't want to be there. She wanted to drop out. Of course, her parents were completely...

Our first contact with Columbus Birth & Parenting was over Instagram. I messaged them after their big event, No Child Wet Behind. I stalked them for awhile, and thought it was time to reach out like a normal person should (although I tend to do things in a way that isn't so normal.)  The reason I was so intrigued by them in the beginning was the fact that this 5k event and fundraiser they held had an inspirational meaning behind it, and it impacted the city of Columbus in a positive way--just like we hope to do at Columbus Stories. I could tell Leah and Catie cared...

Tiger Mushroom Farms was founded by Te’Lario II when he was 7 years old after a Cub Scout project ended. At his 1st Cub Scout meeting, Te’Lario planted catgrass and basil, which is where his love of watching things grow began. He enjoyed tending to the plants every day afterschool. Before he tended to his plants, he had to complete his homework. Once the project ended, we wanted him to continue his passion, but also because it was an an incentive to complete his homework. We wondered what he could grow in the winter time in Ohio, and Te’Lario said, “mushrooms, because mushrooms grow in the...
