Let me begin by saying this trip was fully compensated for. Every last part of it, but as always, that doesn't change the way I tell my story. Guys, don't you know me by now? Okay, so on to the important stuff--our little weekend getaway to Butler County. I'll be honest, like most of you, I was like, "Where and what is Butler County?!" The Donut Trail is what first enticed me, but I'll admit, there was so much more to Butler County than the Donut Trail! I'm going to give a run down our entire trip with some information about each stop--what we liked, didn't like...

Columbus is pretty incredible--in so many ways. We have: the BEST library in the country the best zoo in the country the best science center in America and America’s largest University. We have also been recognized as one of the 7 Smartest Cities in the World-pretty cool, huh? So, it really should be no surprise why we won the U.S. Department of Transportation $40 million Smart City Challenge. As Mayor Ginther said, "Stop acting surprised." It's true. Columbus really is the place to be and I'm darn proud of that. Because we won the Smart City Challenge and we were awarded a $40 million dollar grant, we are taking great strides to connect...

Who is looking for something FUN to do locally in Columbus this October? You've probably already been to Lynd's Fruit Farm at least three times.  Ready for something new? How about the Trail of Tormented Terror! I'm probably the worst person to take to a haunted anything. Or, the best person. I'm a scaredy-cat and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm afraid of most Halloween related things. Spiders. Skeletons. Chain Saws. Blood. The dead. People chasing you.  All those things, and more. Let me put it this way--Elizabeth and I walked the "Trail of Tormented Terror" and I'm not kidding, I pissed my pants.  That happened. Wanna check out...

"When I was 17 I remember sitting at my Grandfathers oak table tracing the knots in the wood a thousand times as if I were Pac-man trying to find my exit out.  As I flipped through Polaroid pictures laying on the table my Grandfather said to me in a stern voice---don’t mix those pictures up-they tell a story, from beginning to end. My knack for knowing strangers, people, community and their stories came long before I.  Like a family cornbread recipe it was handed down to me from my Grandfather to my Mother, and then I. I intend to also give it away someday. I...

It's the beginning of August and you realize you've been vacationing through other people's Facebook posts, but not a single vacation was one you actually took. Oops. But, luckily, there are still a few days left for some summer fun. I'm not saying vacations are a must, I'm actually against the planned, yearly trips, but I do think summer is the time where you check off some things on your bucket list. Because our kids are so young and we wanted to keep the spending to a minimum, we decided to do a little staycation. What is a staycation you might ask? Well, my definition is--a little vacation...

Part I: Meet Josh & A Carpenter’s Son Design Co. A Carpenter's Son is an umbrella of local craftsman “salvaging a piece of Columbus’ history one tree at a time and giving it a new life,” states Josh, the Founder. “The name actually came to me in the middle of the night.” Growing up Josh was home schooled until the 9th grade, and during that time he witnessed firsthand his father’s passion for carpentry (that he still practices today in Cleveland). Josh’s father was a self-employed entrepreneur--- And home for Breakfast-Lunch-and Dinner most of the time. So, the name doesn’t sound far-fetched—it’s actually rather perfect. With Josh’s early years...

Jennie is leaving for Thailand soon, and needs our help Columbus friends.   "I decided to go to Thailand, because I wanted to experience a new culture entirely outside of my comfort zone. Currently, I serve in an inner-city Columbus elementary school, and I love it. I really feel like serving underprivileged kids is my calling, and I wanted to experience this kind of service in an entirely new place." ~Jennie Jennie grew up in Columbus, where she spent a good portion of her life believing everyone lived the same kind of blessed life she had. It was her years at The Ohio State University that taught her just how diverse...

Dear Columbus, Let me start off by just saying HI and welcome to my unpredictable life.  In 1996 I entered this place called Earth. I was born and raised in the beautiful 614.  I grew up going to Upper Arlington schools. My goal in High School was to graduate and set my life towards being a Hairstylist, or at least something in the beauty industry. Little did I know that’s not what was planned for me. Half way through cosmetology school my family and I had a serious sit down talk about our future goals. A few months down the road I got the opportunity of a lifetime to go live...

The moment he was brought home, wrapped in towels, and cold to the core was a moment I will never forget. Zachary was surrounded by neighborhood children that were helping him walk his frozen body home.  I opened the door to see his tear stained face and listening to his sobs, “I am so sorry. I was so stupid. I am so sorry. My curiosity got the best of me. I am so sorry.” It was like the entire sky broke into a million shards of glass and came crashing down around me. My greatest fear was realized. Our sweet child had not heeded 6...
