"I moved to Columbus from Cleveland, OH in 2010. Shortly after the move I went through a difficult divorce and became a single mother of 3. I needed to find supplemental income to make ends meet and keep life going. I run an in-home daycare during the day and didn’t want to put my children through having a Mom with more than one full time job. I have always been in love with art and I’ve been painting as long as I can remember. I do not have an art degree and hadn’t explored earning an income through my painting beyond selling pet portraits; I...

A Story of Grief @jessfpetersen "I am a married mom of three kids - Sadie, Colin and Elise. My husband Brian and I have been married for 11 years, but have known each other since we were kids. I work in media relations for Lifeline of Ohio and consider it a privilege to work in the field of organ, eye and tissue donation. I am also the #1 Button Artist in the state of Ohio...

"When I was 17 I remember sitting at my Grandfathers oak table tracing the knots in the wood a thousand times as if I were Pac-man trying to find my exit out.  As I flipped through Polaroid pictures laying on the table my Grandfather said to me in a stern voice---don’t mix those pictures up-they tell a story, from beginning to end. My knack for knowing strangers, people, community and their stories came long before I.  Like a family cornbread recipe it was handed down to me from my Grandfather to my Mother, and then I. I intend to also give it away someday. I...

I had finally started to accept that I was going to be a single mother. I was 28 years old and I had a decent job, after all. But I admit that in my heart of hearts, I still didn't love the idea of walking into that ultrasound alone. This was going to be the big one; the one where the doctor tells you that you're having a perfect little baby boy and sets you on track to revel in the bliss of impending motherhood...

Easterseals is an amazing program. I know because my brother Guthrie was born with cerebral palsy and attended the program.  It was life changing for him.  Well, they're hosting their annual spring Romancing the Grape event on April 29th. Romancing the Grape started back in 2002 (so they've been going at it for 15 years) and the event is by far their largest fundraiser. It raises over $100,000 in support of Easterseals’ programs that make profound and positive differences in people’s lives. Programs such as Early Intervention in which children with special needs ages 1-3 receive early childhood education and pediatric therapies vital to helping them reach...

[caption id="attachment_9342" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Emma[/caption] Hello! My name is Emma and I have had quite the journey. I spent a year in the Dominican Republic and a month in Spain. I have taught English, tutored children in an orphanged and worked with woman coming out of sex slavery. I have experienced great times of depression and joy as I have searched for direction in my life. As time goes on, my desire to share my faith and the love God has for everyone in different and wonderful cultures around the world grows more and more. My next journey is to the Japanese Alps where I will...

[caption id="attachment_9052" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Photo by Devon Albeit[/caption] He’s small in stature but mighty in fight. When we were dating and David hadn’t made it as a Columbus fire fighter yet, I was pressuring him hard for a back-up plan. He pushed back with all he had, saying this wasn’t just A plan, it was THE plan. And sure enough, this December marks his 13thyear as a Columbus fire fighter. As a fire fighter’s wife, your worst nightmare is having a station vehicle pull up in front of your home, pausing before delivering the news that something is terribly wrong. He’s not coming home. The second worst nightmare, which I’ve lived, is receiving...

When is a good time to panic? Today I had a couple moments where panic manifested itself, in short order. The first moment, was hearing of an ‘active shooter’ at The Ohio State University.  I don’t think I’ve ever been in a 20 mile radius of anything like this, have you?  (And this was my thought when we were first hearing the news). Sure, we’ve heard about incidents in various other states-- and have prayed for those families, or changed our Facebook profile pictures.   But never has an incident like this been so close to “home.”  The Ohio State.  That’s our “home-base.”  Right? Elizabeth and I were driving down...

"With parenting, we never want our kids to grow up, but it's this inevitable part of the process." The truth of that statement is what helped to inspire the naming of the shop Never Grow Up Boutique.  That and, Andrea's daughter's obsession with Peter Pan Live.   They would watch it on rerun. Her mother-in-law even loves TinkerBell!  It just magically fell into place. Andrea created Never Grow Up Boutique as a store dedicated to providing families with modern, natural, eco-friendly, and chemical free products to guide family life with ease.  They actually just had their grand opening last month!  So, it's safe to say that Andrea has been very busy.  But, how did this all fall into place? Well,...
